The Situation |
|
|---|---|
Every parent asks themselves if they are doing right by their children. Shouldn't deities do the same. Should false gods at least pretend to do as much. When a Star Walker falls to the mortal realm, the ebb and flow of culture is shaken and the champions are sought. Retrieve a lost engineer of the Great Migration and take a journey that will make you remember more than you wanted to. Do it before the Demon King notices you and there might just be a chance of living through it. Coordinator's Note: This game will primarily take place on the "World of Doorways"; also known as "Demon's Heart". It will affect a major story thread for the Survival Wars Saga. |

Sometimes referred to as the "architects" or the "engineers", the Draco-Kindred were actually more of the implementers of the Great Migration. They followed the direction of the Ancients and acted more as interpreters and guides. Of course today many consider these beings to be deities. An idea that the Draco-Kindred do little to correct. - From the Lessons of the Wizards Academy. The Mayor and Kevin Milbane of the Merchants Guild summoned the champions to the mayor's estate for an urgent meeting. Four (4) teams answered the summons. Recent odd happenings had led the two leaders to believe that the universe was behaving erratically to the absence of one of the deities. They had come by an intelligence report that showed a Draco-Kindred had been kidnapped. The report specified the location of the victim and even provided a map. Kevin and the mayor pointed out that the location appeared to rest in the domain of the Demon King. The champions would need to get in and get out fast if they expected to survive. The best course of travel would be to take the mysts to the nearest portal and hike the 5 mile trek to the building where the architect was being kept. They estimated that the heros would have about 3 hours after they arrived before the Demon King would take a personal interest and come after them. With the help of a hired Wayfarer, the teams proceeded to Demon's Heart. Stepping through the portal, they found a trap set and waiting for them. As each person entered through the gate, dart launchers let loose a storm of damage causing more than a bit of trouble. 18 Troglodyte Guards positioned themselves in trenches on either side of the gate. For spear chuckers were hiding behind fake hills and several archers took aim from farther away. The champions fought valiantly and in the end overcame most of the enemy. The leader Batadt escaped however. The teams travelled the 5 mile route to the building at great speed. Utilizing the Force Dragon form of their comrade, they covered the 5 mile trek in about 5 minutes. But the building seemed to make no sense. Unable to open the doors, the teams simply disintegrated them to find the building a solid block of stone. Even as an earth elemental, Oliver could find no entrance as he traversed the stonework. The partially destroyed doors were still emitting energy. Believing the doorway must be a magical portal, the champions sent for a Gate Crasher from Dragons Den. He determined that the door was indeed the key to the portal. They would need to repair it and acquire the wizard marked gems need for activating the portal. The teams found the gems on the bodies of their enemy back at the arrival portal. They hired the Gate Crasher to create a wall of iron and to repair the portal. Once openned properly, the doors led to a demiplane that the Demon King created for use as a jail. In the center of the setting of stars and space, they found an elder gentleman sitting in a force prison and in quite a state of depression. It took a while, but they convinced him to leave. The champions freed him and set to returning him to Dragons Den. Again utilizing the Force Dragon form of Oliver, the team proceed back to the first gate. They found that they had avoided a trap on the ground and worgs, dire wolves, and several wraiths gave chase. Out of nowhere, a bolt of lightening announced the return of Batadt. But after striking once, he quickly fled the scene. Fearing for the safety of their charge, Cedrik and his team teleported back to the gate with the elder. On arrival, Cedrik's team found themselves flanked by 3 slavers, a beholder, and several enforcer drones. They quickly rushed the beholder before it could react and shoved it out of the way to get safely through the gate. The rest of the teams landed near the gate and fled through it, but not before blasting the enemy with another force breath attack and seeing the Demon King arrive with a sky full of demons. The force attack had damaged the portal and now it flickered on and off. This required skill and timing to traverse the gate. On the other side, the teams found their two fallen comrades, but not Cedrik's team, the wayfarer, or their charge. They decided that the risk of being followed was too great. They decided to destroy the gateway. A valiant effort from Grynak proved to be the doom for his favorite weapon. Though the wayfarer was gone, the teams still managed their way back to Dragons Den. They arrived shortly after Cedrik's team. A report was made to the mayor and a request for reimbursement was made. After all, the wayfarer and the gate crasher had cost a good deal of money. But the mayor would only approve the fee for the wayfarer. He determined that the gate crasher was only needed because the champions acted hastily in destroying the doors. Grynak sought out the Kevin to ask about the availability of more special metal for his weapon. kevin agreed to put a special order on it using Grynak's new account. Grynak, to his own amazement, found that he had an account with 50,000gp in it at the Merchants Guild. At the same time, Oliver discovered that his favorite tree was interlaced with mithril, Cedrik found a very favorable acceptance at the housing authority, and Phemis returned to find her favorite chemistry set had been replaced by an all gold replica. A mixture of confusion, joy, and puzzlement filled the air for all of the champions. Meanwhile, no one could exactly remember when the elder had walked away from them or where he went. In addition, the mayor and Kevin could not seem to completely remember the reasons for sending the teams on the mission. They remembered doing it and that it seemed urgent at the time, but the reasons just weren't there. The last thing they remembered clearly was sitting down at a table in Tagar's and being approached by an old imposing dwarf and a stately, but elegant woman.... Many consider the rise of the Demon King's power to have taken its strongest hold in the early part of the year 154 P.A. when a team struck through the portal gate in the Royal Realm for an unknown reason. This incursion into his territory alerted the Demon King to a supposed threat causing him to mobilize his army against the civilized world. Of course many more consider this the start of his downfall and the beginning of the Second Rising of the Second Kingdom. - From the Lessons of the Wizards Academy.
