The Situation

Ages ago, the heir to the Aldun Realm made a pact with a great beast that dwells within a nearby mountain. The beast would stop its slaughter of the people if the heir would overthrow her father and sacrifice 2 of her people each month. The king was overthrown and the pact has been held for 8 generations. Once pacified by the sacrifices being chosen from prisoners, the people have summoned the courage to say no to the pact. Most probably because the prisons are now empty.

You have been summoned to await the beast and end its tyranny. If you fail, well at least the sacrifice is taken care of for this month. A challenge awaits those who answer the call!

Registered Teams & Their Fates

The people of the Aldun Realm awaited their champions to save them . . . and waited . . . and waited . . . and waited. With the deadline come and gone, it was feared the champions had left Aldun to its fate. There were many a reason contrived to account for this. Many of the people believed that the champions were just a story told to scare people into obeying the law. Several speculated that the pride and greed of the Aldun people had finally come back to haunt them. After all, they had gladly sacrificed the lesser among them for generations. It was only now that the aristocracy and common people were threatened that action was going to be taken. Fearing a reprisal from the great beast, 30 of the bravest of Aldun assembled to battle the beast and end its tyranny. 30 brave souls entered the caves at Heir's Ridge. But as the bards will sing, the bravest are not always the strongest.

An hour after the 30 entered the caves, the champions arrived. They had apparently gotten held up in their travel to Aldun. Proceeding directly to the Ridge, they found the beast leaving the caves and 7 of his minions standing between them and their target.

The champions let loose on the minions with arrow and spell. But these minions were something never before seen by the champions. Creatures apparently composed of dust, they quickly reformed to again hold the line against the forces of good. The battle waged on and eventually the champions overcame the minions of the beast and began their battle in earnest.

The beast was a much more powerful foe than those he commanded. Having the form of a minotaur, it's true nature was much more devastating. The creature emitted immense heat and launched attacks of steam against its opponents. Charging our heroes, it's horns nearly took a life early on. But persistence is the mark of a true champion and the beast was eventually defeated.

The news of the creature's defeat quickly spread, but the rejoicing was short lived. Stumbling out of the cave entrance, a lone fighter from the farms emerged. He asked the teams what became of the beast. Upon finding out it had been killed, the man died with an expression of relief on his face. The scene inside the caves was gruesome. Bodies were tossed against and into walls. Burned flesh and boiling blood sent those with weaker stomachs back to the village. It would take weeks to recover enough of the bodies for burial, and longer to put the souls of the living to rest.

The citizens of Aldun paid the teams 700gp each and awarded them each a pearl tear. And behind every expression of thanks could be heard the sarcastic and bitter question "What took you so long?".

  1. Mystic Intervention
    Player: Josh F. Sykes
Blorburg Goldhat (Dwarf Cleric 10) stepped bravely up to the plate to send the undead minions of the beast back to the earth. The power of his deity was evident to all. And had the minions actually been undead, they would undoubtedly been destroyed. Lance Grams (Human Sorcerer 10) launched his attacks with deadly accuracy. The combination of divine and arcane power served the team well this day.

Mystic Intervention survives to adventure again.

  2.

  3. Yoho! Squad
    Player: Elliot [NLNP]
Leot (Human Bard 7), Joe (Human Rogue 7), Loni (Human Fighter 7), and Zold (Human Cleric 7) faced off against the beast first. Leot let loose with the musical magic of his craft assisting the others as they held off attack after attack. In the end, it was the constant and united attacks of this team that opened the way for the beast's defeat.

Yoho! Squad survives to adventure again.
