The Situation

The third chapter of the Orb series. So far, the teams have found two of the three Orb Crystals that (when combined), are a "key" of some sort, involving demons. The Blue Crystal Sphere had an aura of Abjuration, and the Yellow Crystal one of Transmutation. The next one is the Green Crystal, which has an aura of Conjuration. The Green Crystal has been located to be in what was thought to be an abandoned Great Red Wyrm's horde/lair... well, *once* abandoned. A younger Red Dragon (actually Very Old, but anything's younger than a Great Wyrm) has moved into the lair; no one's seen the Great Wyrm in 500+ years.

Your task is simple. Take out the dragon if possible so it doesn't become a threat to the kingdoms at a future time, find the Crystal and get out of there alive. Anything in the lair is a free for all for the brave teams willing to handle this. ("Dragon hide armor for all!")

Raise Dead spells will be gladly given if people are flash-fried, rent to bits, bitten in half, decapitated by the dragon's tail, Symbol-ized, sat on, sneezed on, poked, looked at, and so on (free if you're a Ring Key holder prior to this, otherwise at normal cost). Given the fiasco earlier with the True Resurrection spells, only one (free) will be made available, for either the one most honorable during the fight based on others' accounts, or the first one eaten (Michael's choice).

One last thing. Given all the magical treasures in there conflict with one another, magic energy cast in there may be... tweaked. Mental powers and psionics *should* be unaffected. *GRIN* Most of the magical treasures in there most likely deal with dragons. Several half-dragon and yuan-ti servants have also been seen working for this dragon.

Success and a potent magical goodie are awarded to teams who survive! A 50,000 gold piece award to the one who brings back the Green Crystal and presents it to Michael along with the other two Crystals.

Registered Teams & Their Fates

This one was an open and shut case with very little trouble experienced... or turnout for the game until a half hour after sign ups! The teams were easily successful in dealing with the dragon, yuan-ti and other nastiness right from the start, easily clearing out the treasure horde and earning the Green Orb. The only downside was that the Great Wyrm was released from its Trap The Soul confinement! The Great Wyrm now ravages the lands, destroying portals, eating maidens, and wreaking mayhem. Looks like it's time to put out a call to the dragon- busting druid or the one-man-army of the Steel Order...
  1. Ghost Wind (Master Level Team)
    Player: Christopher J. Ford
After a bit of buffing up, Team Ghost Wind [Illiri (Female Human Sorcerer 16), Ja'Nek (Male Human Cleric 5 / Psion 1), Melee (Male Dwarf Fighter 5), Elizabeth (Female Human Sorcerer 5), Thomas (Male Human Ranger 5), Lyrin (Male Human Bard 12), Khevak (Male Halfling Telepath 4)] approached with open eyes and listening ears. Carefully studying the situation, they slowly made their way forward. Illiri called up a Wall of Ice, hiding behind it, and waiting for the expected enemy to come out swinging. Unfortunately all the enemy that Ghost Wind had spent a week gathering information on had been dealt with by another team. Illiri fired off a sonic orb inside the mouth of the cave to observe if the magic would be changed in any way; it had no effect and the team went back to playing rear guard after putting up another Wall of Ice around the cave opening. While they didn't deal with the dragon, they did loot the remains of the sacrificial bin and got a ring that was magic but no one could figure out what it was.

Ghost Wind survives to adventure again.

  2. Twig (Master Level Team)
    Player: Vanessa Wilcox-Swarez
Lisonamit (Male Wood Elf Druid 18) arrived on the scene, watching the others and making sure it was safe before moving in. After laughing at the Render being dominated, he moved forward very cautiously and noticed the dragon watching them from below. Casting Rusting Grasp to break through the grate, the dragon attacked him with a Shatter spell. The dragon was unpleasantly surprised when the spell did nothing, but have you ever had a druid carry metal or stone armor/weapons *to* be shattered? Dropping off Team Urgoth at the foot of the mighty beast, he knew from previous experience that a Harm spell was the best bet. The spell beat the spell resistance, the dragon fell from a few more hits, and he then had his second dragon under his belt. Searching for the Orb, he found a small golden box which was the key to a Leomund's Secret Chest that *contained* what they were looking for.

    Twig survives to adventure again.

  3. Rig (Novice Level Team)
    Player: Wayne Edie
Kij (Male Human Psion 15) rigged the adventure from the start, Mass Dominating all the yuan-ti, the Gray Render, and the Sorceress inside the place and leaving Team Ghost Wind with nothing to kill. Spying the dragon watching from below, he let off a Disintegrate, not quite knowing what's going on when he saw his bolt of disintegration turn into a bolt of pure matter that did extra damage to the dragon. After the yuan-ti exploded and he commanded the Gray Render to not be a threat, he grabbed the sorceress's wand, and grabbed a metal box from the dragon horde that contained several cool metal tricks, including an Instant Fortress and a dagger with the Brilliant Energy trait. The downside was that he also released the Great Red Wyrm whose soul had been trapped... it flew off instead of baking the parties...

    Rig survives to adventure again.

  4. Urgoth (Novice Level Team)
    Player: Dan Farina
Urgoth (Male Half-Orc Barbarian 6 / Eye of Gruumsh 9) decided it would be better to be safe than sorry, only really moving after he saw the others go in with very little trouble or danger. Standing firm until he realized the danger had been removed, he went in and prepared to search through the treasure pile left by the disintegrated dragon. He would have jumped into the pile without looking, save for Lisonamit attacking once ("Who are you? For all I know you might be an enemy!") While he did not find the Orb, he did pack up some of the treasure and come back satisfied, especially with his new Belt of Giant Strength +6.

    Urgoth survives to adventure again.

  5. Nature's Chosen (Novice Level Team)
    Player: Peter Farina
Uram Shakai (Male Half-Orc Druid 3 / Barbarian 2 / Bear Lord 10), preparing himself for what he thought would be a large battle, kind of appeared disappointed when he entered and encountered no opposition in the early going. Searching through the sacrificial altar for what he thought was the best stuff [a Staff of Frost], he jumped into the tank of water behind it to deal with the sea lions blocking the path to the dragon. Killing some and wounding others into submission, he reached the dragon's lair a bit too late for a fight; he too picked up some of the treasure but failed to find the Orb.

Nature's Chosen survives to adventure again.
