The Situation

A wave of refugees had told king valor an impossible yet undeniably true story. The Tarrasque had built a nest outside their town and laid an egg. There were also rumors that an evil cult that worships The Beast had moved into the abandoned town. King Valor asked the heroes to retrieve this egg to prevent another monster from being born. Only the hero to physically present the king with the egg would be awarded a success (and thus a Ring Key of the Spire). This hero would be rewarded by the King Valor with his heart's desire. Unfortunately the King's clerics were a little upset at the frivolous use the heroes have shown for true resurrections. For this quest regular Resurrections would be the only aid granted.

Registered Teams & Their Fates

  1. Mithril Chef
    Player: Wayne Edie
As soon as all the teams arrived in town, a dead body that was on the side of the road caught Criipt's (Human Psionic Warrior 15) eye. While the other teams were more concerned with the potent magical quarterstaff the deceased was carrying, Criipt was more concerned with the fact that the body was that of an elf. Flying into a murderous blood lust Criipt beat the corpse severely and managed to break the quarterstaff in the process. Then upon hearing a cry for help from one of his comrades he charged into battle in order to help save team Lawn. After that battle was over the psychic warrior then teleported towards the Tarrasque, unfortunately he arrived there just in time to see Nate the Lich (Grywlthznchplk) swallowed whole by the ferocious creature. Still dazed from his Dimension Door, Criipt wasn't able to act until after one of his teammates had already defeated The Beast.

  2. Lawn
    Player: Jennifer Sternfeld
While team Mithril Chef was busy beating up the recently deceased, Ruin (Gnome Wizard 9 / Druid 6) sulked about town looking for signs of cultist egg-tivity, unfortunately the cultists found her first. Ruin's petite gnomish body was no match for the HUGE Yuan-Ti egg-bomination cultist she now faced alone. She sent her frogs for help and spent the rest of the session trapped in the snake-like beings coils fighting desperately for life.

  3. Death from Afar
    Player: Jonathan Sternfeld
Giving Criipt (Mithril Chef) a wide berth while he desecrated the dead, Sargen of Hornwood (Human Rogue 6) and Tharivol Liaden (Elf Fighter 6 / Wizard 1 / Arcane Archer 10 / Deepwoods Sniper 2) left with Griff (Hammer of Moradin) to investigate cultist activities at the Temple of Pelor. While scoping out a section of wall that didn't seem right, Sargen was suddenly polymorphed into a tiny snake. Tharivol quickly spotted the Yuan-Ti Cultist responsible for his comrade's situation and tore the beast to shreds with his arrows before Griff even realized they were in a battle. Still shell-shocked about his friends new form, Tharivol put Sargen in his glove of storing and then rushed off to save team Lawn as he heard her cries for help.

  4. The Hammer of Moradin
    Player: Tom Leonard
After running to aid Team Lawn, Griff "Keg Belly" Warbeard (Dwarf [Ex] Barbarian 8 / Dwarven Defender 7) found that his weapon wasn't as egg-fective as it should have been. Suddenly, as if Nate The Lich (Grywlthznchplk) was whispering advice to him, Griff realized that he could actually attack four times a round instead of only once. After that, his weapon was instrumental in saving Ruin (team Lawn).
    Personal Log:
"This one was easy. As far as it looked, anyway. This female Tarrasque whore was going to be a breeze, even if I wasn't going to be actively kicking it's butt. Upon hearing King Valor's speech about how not fighting it would not be dishonorable, I raised my greatsword in resolution. I did not want this thing hatching into a lesser god, and for once I didn't care what King Valor wanted. I was going to shatter that egg if I got to it. Keeping it around, even for magical research, would be a risk I was not willing to take.

"Of course, the Lich too wanted to succeed. He said something along the lines of he had the whole thing taken care of. 'Mighty cocky of you, lichboy.' was my only reply to that. I never thought I'd have to eat my words, seeing what the Lich did to it. Another person with a glaive offered me yet another ioun stone, 'After I'm done with it.' He said that with a big grin, making me wonder what he had in mind. That's one guy I've got to keep my eye on.

"Once King Valor put up his tent by magic, it was time to begin. The best way to go about it was to gather information first. Seeing how good the archer was with his bow [Tharivol of Team Death From Afar], I offered my services. 'You cover me, I'll hit things.' I said. He readily agreed, and we began our search of the abandoned village for clues. The abandoned Temple of Pelor seemed like our best bet, so we headed in that direction.

"Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a man with his zoo of animals snap a large staff in half and then I heard a mental scream. I knew magic was at work there and magic is not to be toyed with, so I quickly followed the archer to the temple.

"The temple itself was dusty, and did not look like it had been used in quite some time. I never saw anything until the archer opened fire on something in the shadows. All I could do was ask, 'What's up, elf?' --- until I saw what his arrows did to the thing. It left me slack-jawed, I'll tell you that! Remind me never to get this elf angry. The monster he had torn into (and through) was a Yuan-ti, a member of a hideous serpent race. It was huge, but was also wearing a large mass of adamantium that it called a breastplate, though it was full of holes from the archer's arrows.

"A scream from outside caused us to run back outside. Another Yuan-ti, this one larger than the first, had a gnome (or was it halfling, I always get the two confused) tightly in its coils. I got in a couple of hits at the end of my charge, kind of annoyed I move a little slow because of my stature. The archer however, astounded us all again by filling it full of arrows before I could attack again. Next time, I'm buying some potions that can speed me up.

"'C'mon, elfy.' I said. 'Let's go see if anything else is in those buildings. I'd hate for other surprises to jump out at us.' One of the giant toads croaked that he agreed it was a good idea, in the common language of all things! This was going to be more interesting than I thought, to hang around with this elf archer and this gnomeling toad handler!

"We found nothing more than poisoned bodies, and no more Yuan-ti. I was itching for another fight, and was ready to see the Tarrasque, but ol' Lich boy had already dealt with it and had returned to King Valor. He'd turned the thing into a lizard! I have a healthy respect for someone who can do THAT to a Terror-ass-que of all things, but he's still evil and still a lich. I don't care how many good deeds he hides behind. He's still an evil undead abomination and will have to be dealt with.

"When all was said and done, the guy with the glaive gave the ioun stone he was carrying to me as promised... then lashed out with his weapon and shattered it with a single swing... after I'd traded him a Glove of Storing for it! I can always buy another Glove of Storing, but to insult my generosity like that... such manners, that one. I'll have to bring him down one or two ego notches just to annoy him. Insulting my kindness... makes me glad I became civilized. But if he insults my honor again, I'll kill him.

"Once back home, it's time to break out the big guns. *pulls out a rhino outfit* Laugh if you want, but a proper dwarven charge is a thing of beauty. I don't care how comical it looks. If it gets the job done, it's worth it."

The Hammer of Moradin survives to adventure again.

  5. Twig
    Player: Vanessa Wilcox-Swarez
After picking up what was left of the magical quarter staff Criipt attacked, Lisonamit (Wood Elf Druid 17) rushed off to attack the Tarrasque. Unfortunately she arrived just in time to see the mighty beast vanquished by another. King Valor is currently having his mages repair her magical quarterstaff . . who knows what secrets it holds?

  6. Ghost Wind
    Player: Christopher J. Ford
After aiding in team Lawn's rescue, Illiri (Human Sorcerer 16), Ja'Nek (Human Cleric 5 / Psion 1), Thomas (Human Ranger 5), and Elizabeth (Human Sorcerer 5) then teleported towards The Tarrasque and hatched a plan with Lisonamit (Twig) to steal the egg from its mother. Unfortunately Ghostwind's egg-celent plan never left the drawing board.

Melee (Dwarf Fighter 5), Lyrin (Human Bard 12), and Khevak (Halfling Psion 4) assisted with the rescue of Lawn, but remained behind to keep an eye on the town while the others went on ahead.

  7. Grywlthznchplk
    Player: Jason Isolda
Nate the Lich (Human Lich Conjurer 5 / Alienist 9 / Lore Master 3) had his eye on the prize from the get go. Ignoring team Lawn's pleas for help, Nate flew straight for the Tarrasque. First Nate summoned warriors straight from Valhalla to keep the Tarrasque busy as he cast sequester on the Egg in order to make sure no one poached his prize. Then in order to avoid the Beast's Reflective carapace, Nate allowed himself to be swallowed (after a failed attempt or two at flying down it's throat.) Once inside the Tarrasque, Nate and his twin familiars pelted the beast with a plethora of enervation spells. after Dimension Dooring out of it's gullet, Nate then let loose with a torrent of polymorph any object spells. Nate then picked up the beast (now a tiny lizard) and the egg and headed off towards King Valor. All of this happened in less then the blink of an eye. Nate turned the egg over to the king in egg-change for his prize but the lich decided to keep the Tarrasque. King Valor couldn't help but wonder "Egg-zactly why am i trusting a lich who can kill the Tarrasque in less then 18 seconds?"
